Crazy Rich Asians [Collaborative Post]

The Handmaid's Tale

Tidak terkecuali The Handmaid's Tales karya Margaret Atwood.

Summer Days and Summer Nights

My True Love Gave to Me, meskipun nama para penulisnya tentulah berbeda.

Faces & Places

There is nothing such a good present for a bookdragon but books itself.

What I Wish I Had Known (& Other Lessons You Learned in Your 20s)

Quarter life crisis.

We Should All Be Feminist & Feminist Manifesto in 15 Suggestions

Feminist Fight Club

Fenomena Women's March memang sempat ramai. Apalagi ketika Donald Trump resmi dikukuhkan menjadi Presiden Amerika Serikat.

Friends? Palmer, Bri, and Toby—pretty much the most awesome people on the planet, who needs anyone else?
Relationships? No one’s worth more than three weeks.

So it’s no surprise that Andie’s got her summer all planned out too.

Until a political scandal costs Andie her summer pre-med internship, and lands both she and Dad back in the same house together for the first time in years. Suddenly she’s doing things that aren’t Andie at all—working as a dog walker, doing an epic scavenger hunt with her dad, and maybe, just maybe, letting the super cute Clark get closer than she expected. Betrayal

Jumlah halaman: 304 halaman
Tahun terbit: 2016 (pertama kali terbit tahun 2002)
Penerbit: Profile Books
Harga: Hadiah Ulang Tahun ke-23
Format: paperback
Rating Shiori-ko: 4/5
Sinopsis:

This is the true story of how a small group of courageous journalists uncovered child abuse on a vast scale - and held the Catholic Church to account. Betrayal is a ground-breaking work of investigative journalism, now brought brilliantly to life on the screen in the major new movie Spotlight. Winner of the Pulitzer Prize for Public Service. On 31 January 2002, the Boston Globe published a report that sent shockwaves around the world. Their findings, based on a six-month campaign by the 'Spotlight' investigative team, showed that hundreds of children in Boston had been abused by Catholic priests, and that this horrific pattern of behaviour had been known - and ignored - by the Catholic Church. Instead of protecting the community it was meant to serve, the Church exploited its powerful influence to protect itself from scandal - and innocent children paid the price. This is the story from beginning to end: the predatory men who exploited the vulnerable, the cabal of senior Church officials who covered up their crimes, the 'hush money' used to buy the victims' silence, the survivors who found the strength to tell their story, and the Catholics across the world who were left shocked, angry, and betrayed. This is the story, too, of how they took power back, confronted their Church and called for sweeping change. Updated for the release of the Oscar-nominated film Spotlight, this is a devastating and important exposure of the abuse of power at the highest levels in society.

Speak

Speak
Penulis: Laurie Halse Anderson
Jumlah halaman: 210 halaman
Tahun terbit: 2011 (diterbitkan pertama kali 1999)
Penerbit: Square Fish
Format: paperback
Harga: Rp 99.000 di Books & Beyond
Rating Shiori-ko: 4/5
Sinopsis:

The first ten lies they tell you in high school.

"Speak up for yourself--we want to know what you have to say." From the first moment of her freshman year at Merryweather High, Melinda knows this is a big fat lie, part of the nonsense of high school. She is friendless, outcast, because she busted an end-of-summer party by calling the cops, so now nobody will talk to her, let alone listen to her. As time passes, she becomes increasingly isolated and practically stops talking altogether. Only her art class offers any solace, and it is through her work on an art project that she is finally able to face what really happened at that terrible party: she was raped by an upperclassman, a guy who still attends Merryweather and is still a threat to her. Her healing process has just begun when she has another violent encounter with him. But this time Melinda fights back, refuses to be silent, and thereby achieves a measure of vindication. In Laurie Halse Anderson's powerful novel, an utterly believable heroine with a bitterly ironic voice delivers a blow to the hypocritical world of high school. She speaks for many a disenfranchised teenager while demonstrating the importance of speaking up for oneself.

Speak was a 1999 National Book Award Finalist for Young People's Literature.
